Beyond Fight, Flight or Freeze
.

.
What does it take to realize your dreams and visions for your life?
Especially after life has thrown you a curve ball like the past few years.Â
It may have felt like you had to put your dreams on hold.Â
Maybe you're questioning what that even looks like right now!
Perhaps you're pivoting and redefining your priorities.Â
But one things for sure, everyone has had to deal with the prolonged stress of having been in a global lockdown for several years, as well as the uncertainty and hardship it spawned both politically and economically.Â
And that's kept some fairly primitive parts of your brain activated that are involved with survival.Â
That's why you might be feeling more irritable, and impatient, and not as motivated as you normally are.Â
Maybe you've felt anxious or depressed, and less able to handle regular life stressors.Â
Its why you crave more down time, Netflix and carbs!Â
You might also notice old trauma surfacing, and unresolved pain from the past getting triggered by current fears for your physical or emotional safety.Â
This is normal, but nevertheless, should be tended to so it doesn't create further issues for you down the road.Â
And as we move towards creating a 'new normal' for ourselves, it's a good time to reset your system and strengthen your resiliency so you can thrive, not "just survive."Â
So what does that look like? What does it entail?
First you have to clarify and claim what you desire to create now. Then you start taking action on it, even if you donât know how it's all going to turn out.
This is the point where you might experience some resistance creeping in.
Why?
Because as soon is you declare what you want, you also surface whateverâs in the way of making it happen.
The fears, the doubts, the âwhat ifâsâ and âyes, butsâŚâ
You know the drill, the monkey mind goes bananas because what it wants is to keep you safe and in control, creating a predictable future.
Especially now, because life has been SO very unpredictable! Â
Those negative and fearful voices have indeed, helped you survive, but they also put the brakes on whenever you do something outside your comfort zone.Â
Its called the âdefault mode networkâ of your brain, and itâs what you sense as the âvoice in your head,â the inner critic, which is constantly judging whatâs happening and comparing it to the past and making decisions for you about your future.
But since youâre wired for survival, and doing whatâs comfortable and familiar, you tend to create more of the âsame âol, same âol,â or life as Groundhog Day.
Safe, but not very satisfying is it?
But the default network isnât designed to make you happy, it evolved to protect you!
And there are other parts of your brain and body that are fully dedicated to keep you out of harms way by signaling the âfight, flight or freezeâ response to threat.
Whether the threat's real, or imagined.
And when you're triggered or stressed, your body can have a hard time distinguishing between the twoÂ
So hereâs the good news:
You can learn to dial down and even reverse the effects of the default mode network, as well as calm down and turn off the âfight, flight or freezeâ response in your body when its activated due to stress, or unresolved pain and trauma from your past.
That's because your brain is incredibly plastic, and you can consciously choose and train yourself what to pay attention to, i.e. what you desire, instead of what to avoid.
But it's not all about changing your "mindset", you can also transform and release a lot of the limiting beliefs and behavior you downloaded to survive that are locked up in your body, using the same pathways where constriction got installed.Â
The body is ever so elegantly designed that way.Â
And the best part:
The times youâre most free from the negativity and limitation of âthe voice in your headâ and the constriction in your body is when youâre active and doing the things you love to do.
When youâre nourishing and nurturing yourself,Â
Moving your body,Â
Or when you're in a flow state.
âFlowâ as the feeling of being âin the zone,â fully present and absorbed in what you're doing.Â
It's where decision making happens effortlessly.
And creativity and risk-taking are exponentialized!
Fear is replaced by a sense of freedom, and of choice.
This is the state that's available to you when you know how to create connection and coherence in your brain and your body.Â
